From the moment Keyanna realized she wanted to change lives through teaching, her purpose has been clear. As she prepares to graduate this month with her bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Mild Intervention K-12 and a certificate in Intense Interventions, the Bruceville, Indiana, native is ready to bring her passion to a classroom dedicated to supporting students with disabilities.

Below, Keyanna reflects on her VU experiences, shares her career aspirations, what makes her a Trailblazer, and more.

Why did you choose VU?

“It’s close to home and I could go to school without any student debt.”

Why did you choose to study Education?

“Education is something I have always wanted to do. It started in fourth grade with my fourth- grade teacher. Christine Betz is the reason I am becoming a teacher. She showed me what it means to care.”

What are your plans after graduation?

“I will be looking for a house to settle down in and get a full-time teaching job since my degree will cover a variety of subject areas and grade levels.”

What have been your best experiences at VU?

“CCF (Christian Campus Fellowship) has made me feel right at home. They welcomed me with open arms. I only started going August of 2025 but would highly recommend this to any person seeking to get closer to God. Education Club has also helped me build my ability in teaching and broaden my horizons. We worked with special needs adults and other groups in the area.”

What makes you a Trailblazer?

“People often tell me I walk with purpose and determination. That’s all part of being a Trailblazer. VU has helped build parts of me that have made me better.”
