Grounds Maintenance - Vincennes, IN

Full-Time

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for a Grounds Maintenance Associate at the Vincennes Campus. This is a full-time, support staff position.

This position is responcible for:

  • Provides leadership to mowing and/or lawn maintenance crew.

  • Perform grounds maintenance activities; lawn mowing, trimming, irrigation, exterior plantings, walks and brick walkways, snow removal and de-icing, etc. including operation and maintenance of grounds equipment, forklift, dump truck, etc.

  • Parking and traffic control structure maintenance; barricades, street drains, pavement maintenance, parking bumpers, etc.

  • Acquisition and maintenance of appropriate Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for operation of Trash Compactor truck; picking up refuse and delivery to landfill. Responsible for handling and storage of Bio-hazardous Waste

  • Required to work in a physical nature outside with grounds crew, to include all the above mention task.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Physical Plant.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • One-year experience in grounds maintenance work; or equivalent combinations of applicable experience.

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.

  • Interpret and work rough sketches, drawings and blue prints, and follow both verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to instruct assistants, and provide leadership for seasonal and part-time employees/

  • Understand and follow all safety procedures and use of safety equipment

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, faculty & staff, students and the general public; will be required to work as a member if other trade crews on large projects.

  • Operate vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license. CDL with appropriate classification for operation of the trash compactor truck is required.

  • May work under emergency and difficult situations.

  • Experience and comfortable working in heights with agility and balance, on scaffolding, ladders, and lifts.

  • Able to respond to emergency call-ins and may be required to work weekends/holidays as needed on snow removal, storm damage, special activities, etc.

  • Skilled in the operation and use of tools, chemicals, materials, and equipment in the grounds maintenance area with a good mechanical background.

  • Knowledge of lawn, grounds, and construction equipment operation and maintenance; i.e. Bobcat, forklift, etc.

  • May be required to perform weekend/holiday building checks and respond to pager calls.

  • Provide instruction to assistants and assist with training of new co-workers.

Physical Demands:

  • Standing, bending, climbing, carrying, reaching, handling, and use of fingers 50% or more of the work day. Combination of heavy truck operation and manual labor activities.

  • Regular attendance is required for this position. Actual schedule contingent upon the needs of the department and Vincennes University.

  • Works both indoors and outdoors, occasionally under inclement weather conditions.

  • Frequently lifting 50-100 pounds or over.

Electrical Maintenance Associate - Vincennes, IN

Full-Time

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for a Electrical Maintenance Associate at the Vincennes Campus. This is a full-time, support staff position.

The Electrical Maintenance Associate is responsible for the maintenance and repair of Vincennes University electrical systems

This position is responcible for:

  • Responsible for maintenance and repair operations as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Installs and repairs Electrical, HVAC, Telephone, Security Equipment, and other educational equipment as assigned.

  • Installation of 3-phase service including new and existing construction.

  • Repair fan units, motors, pumps, valves, dampers, condensers, compressors and HVAC controls.

  • Inspects, repairs, and responds to calls on weekends and after hours.

  • Works independently and with all Physical Plant personnel installing and maintaining equipment.

  • Maintains and repairs Fire Alarm, Control, Security, Electrical, and HVAC systems.

  • Maintains and operates Hi-Voltage Substation and Transformers.

  • Helps with all University Events.

  • Repairs and installs Food Service equipment.

  • Other duties, within the Physical Plant as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma, or GED/ HSE.

  • Electrical License, preferred.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.

Position Requirements:

  • Three years documented experience as an Electrician in the institutional or commercial environment. Related skills in a combination of the following areas: mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, building trades, etc.

  • Acquire within a specific time frame an Electrician License, City of Vincennes.

  • Interprets and works from rough sketches, drawings, and blueprints, and follows both verbal and written instructions.

  • Understand and follow all safety procedures and use of safety equipment.

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, faculty, and staff, students and the general public; will be required to work as a member of an assigned crew on large projects

  • Experienced and comfortable working in heights on scaffolding, ladders, and lifts.

  • With appropriate training, ability to work in confined spaces.

  • Able to respond to emergency situations and will be required to perform building checks during weekends/holidays on a rotation basis and carrying/responding to cell phone calls.

  • Skilled in the safe operation and use of tools, materials, and equipment.

  • Experience with heating, ventilating, and boiler equipment and operations desirable.

  • Provide instruction to assistants and assist with training of new co-workers.

  • Working knowledge of operation of boilers, pumps, air compressors, water heaters and refrigeration equipment.

  • Willingness to learn and work in other trade skills in order to complete maintenance duties efficiently and effectively. (Including Carpentry, Plumbing and HVAC)

  • Standing, bending, climbing, carrying, reaching, handling, and use of fingers 50% or more of the work day. Works off scaffold, ladders, personal lifts, roof tops, etc.

WVUT Producer/Director - Vincennes, IN

Full-Time

Vincennes University’s PBS affiliate station WVUT is looking for a Producer/Director with an excellent set of broadcasting skills to enhance our studio broadcasts and in-the-field video productions.

The WVUT Producer/Director has a passion for broadcast television with skillsets centered on videography, editing, producing and directing. This position will work closely with other production and station employees in a quick-paced environment working on daily deadlines.

This full-time, 12-month, non-tenured support staff position with benefits reports to the WVUT Production Manager. The standard schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 11am-7:30pm.

Position Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Produce, direct, shoot and edit any programs assigned by the Production Manager for broadcast on WVUT or for other non-broadcast purposes, including, but not limited to:  First City Focus, Sports Remotes, Political Forums and Debates, Newscasts, Newsbreaks, Special Programs and Public Service Forums

  • Produce promotional and PSA announcements

  • Serve as a production crew member on productions that others may be assigned to produce

  • Monitor and operate Master Control

  • Provide the public with weather information for both severe weather and closing and cancellations that may occur

  • Provide training and supervision for students working on the television newscast, sports remotes, public affairs programs, political forums and other programs as part of their requirements for the broadcast program

  • Critique student performances in any of the above mentioned productions

  • Assist students with any pre-productions or post-production work that they have to do for any assigned project

  • Assist students who encounter problems while using the production facilities for WVUT

  • Provide security and accounting for all production equipment including signing out and checking in of location production equipment

  • Other duties as deemed necessary

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Broadcasting or related major

  • 1-2 years’ experience in a broadcast setting

  • Excellent writing and speaking skills

  • Ability to back-time programs and on-air breaks

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with students, staff and faculty, as well as members of the general public

  • Due to the nature of station equipment, candidate must be able to lift 50 pounds with reaching overhead, bending and twisting

Mechanic - Vincennes, IN

Vincennes University is seeking applicants for a Mechanic Maintenance Associate at the Vincennes Campus. This is a full-time, support staff position.

The Mechanic Maintenance Associate is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of all University owned vehicles as well as the maintenance and upkeep of all landscape/lawn care equipment.

This position is responsible for:

  • Troubleshoot and repair of gasoline and diesel engines, small engines, 2 and 4 cycle, all types of passenger and work vehicles, loaders, lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, sweepers, etc equipment.

  • Able to do all phases of automotive and bus repair (breaks, axle repair, engines, fuel systems, cooling, A/C and electrical) etc. Minor transmission repair, welding & cutting, fabrication.

  • Tractor and mower repairs (hydraulics, U-joints repairs, belts, blade, oil changes, minor welding repairs etc.)

  • Preventive maintenance on motor pool fleet, Physical Plant, and all University owned vehicles on the main campus and equipment.

  • Will operate and repair snow removal and assist with snow removal as needed.

  • Will operate and repair lawn maintenance equipment and assist with all phases of grounds duties as needed.

  • Other duties within the Physical Plant as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma, or GED/ HSE.

  • 2 years documented experience in the mechanical field, possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.

Position Requirements:

  • Two years documented experience in grounds equipment and automotive/truck repair in the institutional, industrial, or commercial environment. Other related experience will be considered.

  • Possess a Class B CDL with passenger endorsement or be able to acquire one within 90 days of hire.

  • Provide instructions to assistants and assist with training of new co-workers.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a crew.

  •  Understand and follow all safety procedures and use of safety equipment.

  • Ability to organize and maintain work station/area.

  • Maintain a positive working relations with co-workers, faculty, and staff, students and the general public; will/can be required to work as a member of an assigned crew on large projects.

  • Able to utilize diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot equipment problems and electronics.

  • Available to work after hours when deemed necessary by the supervisor. Requires to work on snow removal crew and on a weekend rotation with other members of the Grounds Dept.

  • Regular attendance and punctuality is required for this position; actual schedule contingent upon the needs of the department and Vincennes University.

Physical Demands:

  • Bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Work both indoors and outdoors, occasionally in inclement weather; and varying hours as required by weather conditions.
