Professor Wilkes believes that nurses that nurses play an important role in the restoration of physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health. As an educator for future nurses, she teaches the important skills of critical thinking and use of the nursing process to deliver competent, culturally sensitive care through the use of lecture, clinical experiences, case studies, vignette response, and role play. As an academic advisor, Professor Wilkes works interpersonally with her advisees to make sure their needs are being met and that they are following the academic track that will result in the attainment of their academic goals. Professor Wilkes also believes it is her duty to empower the student to take charge of challenges they may experience while in the sheltering environment of college, giving them the experience to meet challenges in the working world with confidence.
Work experience includes five years of experience as Clinical Support Nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes and nine years as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse at Lasalle Behavioral Health, Vincennes, Indiana.
Professor Wilkes finds that the best part of teaching at Vincennes University is the personal connections she makes with her students who go on to do great things.
