November 6, 2018 / Trailblazers volleyball season ends
WEST PLAINS, Mo. - The Vincennes University volleyball team had
its season come to an end in the semifinals of the NJCAA Division I
District J Tournament over the weekend.
The Trailblazers dropped a 25-14, 25-16, 25-8 decision to
Missouri State-West Plains, ending their season with a 27-13 mark.
VU battled injuries and sickness over the last few weeks and
again was struck with misfortune on Saturday.
Rachel Rupert, who filled in for injured front-row attacker
Ariana Gentzler the last two weeks, missed the final match due to a sickness.
“We were fortunate to have Mackenzie Haworth back, but we lost
Rachel as she felt ill,” VU coach Gary Sien stated.
Alison Smith, who last week was voted as the MVP of Region
XXIV, led the Trailblazers attack with 10 kills to go along with seven digs.
Grace Doane added six kills.
Lucie Strasser finished with 14 assists and 11 digs.
The Trailblazers dropped three of their final five matches of
the season.
“It was just a very disappointing end to the season as we had
no sense of consistency,” Sien said. “We lacked our usual good ball
control which made it hard to run in our system.”
