“I passed… I’m a graduate!”

Megan Reed was excited to learn that she will be walking across the stage at our annual Vincennes University Adult Education Graduation Ceremony in July of 2020. When she heard the good news, she was reassured that all her hard work had paid off!

Her classroom has a wall filled with pictures of our 2019 graduates. Megan has been looking at that wall for months as she has been studying for her HSE. She has been looking forward to the day that her picture would be up there. Very soon, it will be because she is a graduate!

Now that Megan has her HSE diploma, she is applying to cosmetology school, which has been a goal of hers for a long time. She says, “Getting my HSE means a lot to me. I can go to cosmetology school now and start my career, and just the feeling of accomplishment really makes me happy and proud of myself.” Megan’s mom commented on her accomplishment and said, “She has struggled for years with finishing anything so this is a big step for her.”

Completing an HSE is a huge milestone for anyone of any age and background, and helping adults in our community succeed at their second chance to graduate is why we do what we do. Like Megan, many of our students are reminded of the great potential they have and are more motivated to continue their education and training after completing our program.

Megan’s advice to others wanting to get their HSE is, “Study hard, work hard, don’t give up, and keep trying!” Her teacher, Marsha Stowe, said, “Megan kept coming back. She never quit. It was something she was motivated to do, and she did it!” Congratulations, Megan! We can’t wait to cheer you on as you walk across the stage at graduation!!
