Bringing Decades of Classroom Experience to VU
Before joining Vincennes University, Miller spent 33½ years in public education, including more than a decade teaching high school special education and 23 years in elementary general education.
Throughout her career, she served as a certified mentor teacher for the State of Indiana, guiding newly hired educators through their first two years in the classroom. She also worked with the Indiana Department of Education to develop mathematics curriculum guides for use across the state.
Her innovative and inclusive teaching methods have earned her multiple teaching awards.
Building Strong Readers Through the Science of Reading
With extensive training in the Science of Reading, Miller brings specialized expertise in literacy development and evidence-based reading instruction.
At VU, she teaches Reading Foundations, Elementary Reading I & II, Corrective Reading, and Classroom Management. She also supervises student teachers, helping them translate educational theory into effective classroom practices.
Her experience across special education, elementary education, and literacy instruction gives future educators practical strategies for meeting the needs of diverse learners.
From VU Student to VU Professor
Miller's connection to Vincennes University began long before she became a professor. She attended VU before continuing her education at Indiana University, where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees.
She credits her early experience at Vincennes University with laying the foundation for her academic and professional success.
