December 11, 2018 / Trailblazers ranked No. 2 in latest NJCAA poll

VINCENNES, Ind. - The Vincennes University men’s basketball team moved up one spot in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Poll released Tuesday afternoon.

The Trailblazers received 383 points, including four first-place votes, to earn a No. 2 ranking.

Defending national champion South Plains made the climb to the top with 394 points. Plains occupied the No. 2 spot last week.

Last week’s No. 1 Northwest Florida State dropped to No. 4 in the latest rankings after suffering its first defeat of the season. The Raiders lost a 87-73 decision to unranked East Florida State, before bouncing back to beat No. 5 Florida Northwestern State, 69-65.

Rounding out the top 5 are: No. 3 Coffeyville and No. 5 Tallahassee. The complete rankings can be found here.

The Trailblazers, who are still No. 1 in the latest Massey Ratings, needed overtime to keep their undefeated start to the season. District 16 foe Kaskaskia took the Trailblazers (12-0) to an extra session on Saturday.

Career high in points for Lony Francis, Jr. (31) and George Dixon (20) along with 21 points from Keith Clemons, helped VU prevail 98-92.

The Trailblazers return to the court on Monday, traveling to district foe Lincoln Trail. The game is part of a women’s and men’s doubleheader starting at 6:30 p.m. (EST).

More District 16 news: John A. Logan moved up two spots to No. 11 this week. The Vols are 10-1 on the season with their only loss coming to the Trailblazers...Olney Central dropped it first contest of the season on Saturday with a loss to Lincoln Trail. The Blue Knights received votes in last week’s poll but are completely out of the rankings this week.
