VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University has been named one of the Top 200 U.S. Community Colleges eligible to compete for the 2027 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the nation’s signature recognition of high achievement and performance among America’s community colleges.
The Aspen Prize, awarded every two years by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program, honors colleges that deliver exceptional results for students in four key areas: teaching and learning, certificate and degree completion, workforce success, and equitable outcomes for students of all backgrounds. The Prize carries a total of $1 million in shared funds for exemplary institutions that demonstrate measurable impact and innovation in student success.
“This recognition reflects Vincennes University’s deep commitment to student achievement,
workforce advancement, and community partnership,” said Vincennes University President
Dr. Chuck Johnson. “Our mission—to provide accessible, high-quality education that
transforms lives and strengthens communities—has guided VU for more than two centuries.
Being named among the Top 200 for the Aspen Prize underscores how we’re carrying that
legacy forward in powerful new ways.”
VU’s continued emphasis on hands-on learning, industry-aligned programs, and personalized student support distinguishes it as a leader in student success and workforce readiness. From innovative partnerships with global companies such as Amazon, Toyota, Walmart and Hershey to trailblazing early college and dual credit programs that open doors for high school students across Indiana and beyond, Vincennes University continues to set the standard for excellence in higher education.
“This acknowledgment from the Aspen Institute affirms what our students, alumni, and partners experience every day: VU is a place where education changes lives,” said Interim Provost Jaci Lederman. “It’s a testament to the extraordinary dedication of our faculty and staff who ensure every Trailblazer has the opportunity to succeed.”
The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program selected the Top 200 community colleges based on publicly available data measuring student outcomes in learning, completion, employment, and equity. The field will narrow in the months ahead as semifinalists and finalists are identified before the ultimate 2027 Aspen Prize winner is announced.
