VU CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF MILITARY EDUCATION PROGRAM SUPPORTING SERVICE MEMBERS WORLDWIDE

VINCENNES, Ind. — Vincennes University proudly celebrates the 40th anniversary of its Military Education Program (MEP), which has provided flexible education to service members and their families around the globe for four decades.

Launched in 1986, the program responds to the unique needs of military learners, supporting over 225,000 students in achieving their academic and professional goals.

“For 40 years, the MEP has been a steadfast partner in helping service members achieve their educational goals, wherever duty calls,” said Matthew Schwartz, Assistant Vice President of Outreach & Engagement.

With flexibility at its core, the program adapts to the demands of military life, offering expanded course delivery methods and adaptable scheduling. Its on-site presence at military installations across Arkansas, California, Florida, and Washington allows staff to build strong relationships and provide in-person advising. The MEP also maintains an administrative office on the Vincennes Campus, which assists students with utilizing their education benefits for tuition and receiving VU credit for their military service.

“We go where our students need us. That’s what makes this program so impactful,” said Glenn Karrmann, Military Education Director.

The MEP has supported service members in all branches, helping them earn degrees and transition to civilian life in fields like engineering, healthcare, and technology.

Gilbert Williams, a former VU advisor, noted, “VU provides a common-sense, affordable path to achieving service members' goals.”

U.S. Navy service member Katie Partida added, “The flexibility has allowed me to consistently work toward my goals, regardless of my schedule. Many professors are prior military, so they truly understand the challenge of balancing a mission with school.”

As the MEP enters its next decade, Vincennes University is committed to expanding flexible learning options and continuing to meet the evolving needs of military-connected students.
