VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University sophomore Walker Paris pitched the final two innings and hit a walk-off single, capping a dramatic 8-7 win for the Trailblazers baseball team against Danville Area on Monday.

The Trailblazers were down 7-2 in the fifth inning of the second game of a Mid-West Athletic Conference doubleheader at Jerry Blemker Field.

They scored two runs in the sixth to make it 7-4.

VU tied the game with three runs in the seventh inning. Sophomore Isaiah Davis hit a two-run and tied the score at 7-all forcing the game into extra innings.

Paris took over on the mound for the final two innings. He pitched two scoreless, hitless innings. He faced six batters and didn’t give up walk

Paris’ walk-off single in the ninth inning produced the winning run. He finished 3-for-6.

Davis was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.

Sophomore Caleb Helms had two hits and two RBIs.

Sophomore Brian Campbell scored two runs.

The Trailblazers split the four-game conference series. VU shut out Danville Area 7-0 in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday.

Danville won 6-3 in the first game on Sunday and took the opener on Monday 3-2.

In Monday’s opener, VU freshman Ryan Robison led off the sixth inning with a solo run and the Trailblazers pulled within 3-2.

VU had a chance to tie the game, but stranded a runner on second base in the final seventh inning.

Sophomore pitcher Kavan Crowell struck out two and allowed three hits in five innings.

In the Trailblazers’ 7-0 victory on Sunday, Davis, Paris and Robison had two hits apiece.

Paris also contributed two RBIs.

Sophomore pitcher Luke Lancaster earned the win and Paris earned the save. Lancaster allowed two hits in five innings. He struck out two and walked three.

Paris didn’t allow a hit and struck out one in two innings.

The series began with Danville Area’s 6-3 win in Game One on Sunday.

Davis and freshman Sean Becker collected two hits each.

Freshman pitcher Kacey Cheek struck out four batters in five innings. He gave up four hits.

VU has a 22-28 overall record and is 10-18 in the MWAC.

Next for the Trailblazers is a conference series against John Wood in Quincy, Illinois. The teams play doubleheaders on May 10 at 2 p.m. EDT and on May 11 at 1 p.m.
