VINCENNES, Ind. – President Chuck Johnson announced the appointment of Whitney Daugherty as Vincennes University’s new Assistant Provost and Dean of Students for Student Affairs.

Daugherty has strong ties to VU. She was previously the University’s Director of Student Activities.

"I am pleased that Whitney will be rejoining Vincennes University,” Johnson said. “I look forward to working with her and the Student Affairs team as we stay focused on providing the kind of living and learning environment that helps our students to grow and achieve their goals."

She will assume the role on May 26, 2020.

“Whitney will be a great addition to our team,” VU Provost and Vice President of Instructional Services/Dean of Faculty Dr. Laura Treanor said. “She brings a broad background of experiences in the Student Affairs area as well as a tremendous passion for the mission of VU and its students. I look forward to the many ways in which the Student Affairs division will flourish and grow under her leadership.”

Daugherty will work closely with acting Assistant Provost Lynn White to ensure a seamless transition.

“I’m really excited to be back at VU and back working with the faculty, staff, and students,” Daugherty said. “We truly have a unique university and I love being a part of that.”

She brings leadership experience within several key areas of student affairs, having previously served as Assistant Director of Career Services at Rose-Hulman and Resident Community Advisor at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

“In my previous role I was able to really work with the students and get their sense of academics, what they like to do for fun, and what they really enjoy about VU,” Daugherty said. “I was also able to work with faculty and staff to make those experiences great for the students. Moving into this position, I think that will help because I know what the students like and what they enjoy about the University and so we are able to highlight those aspects. Already having some of those relationships with faculty, staff, and students is going to make it a little bit easier to continue to grow those relationships.”

In addition to experience within several areas in student affairs, Daugherty has a background in assessment and advising, having also served in the roles as an Assessment Coordinator for Campus Life and Academic Advisor.

Daugherty earned her master's degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education from Indiana State University. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work with a certificate in Drug and Alcohol Abuse from Indiana University East and an Associate of Science in Human Service from Ivy Tech Community College.

“One thing I love about Vincennes University is the sense of family that we have,” she said. “I would like to continue to encourage the team feel for the Student Affairs division. When the students come in and really feel that sense of team working together and making the best for them, then they feel at home and they feel like they are part of that family.”

Daugherty’s own family includes her husband, VU’s Interim Chief of Police Adam Daugherty, two stepsons, and a miniature Goldendoodle.
