April 28, 2026
Maggie Lower prepares to make her mark on the world as she completes her Associate of Science in Nursing and gears up to work in a local emergency room. The Dean’s List student from Linton, Indiana, has spent her final semester at the forefront of healthcare education inside the brand-new Center of Health Sciences and Learning Innovation. Immersed in the latest advanced technology, Maggie is leading the way as one of the first students to experience this cutting-edge learning environment.
Below, Maggie reflects on her VU experiences, shares her career plans, what makes her a Trailblazer, and more.
Why did you choose to attend VU?
“I chose to attend VU because it is close to home and has a smaller campus size, which made it feel like the right fit for me. I really appreciate how the smaller environment allows you to build more personal relationships with your instructors and classmates. It makes you feel known as a student rather than just a number, and that support has made a big difference in my college experience.”
Why did you choose to study Nursing?
“I chose to study nursing because I truly enjoy caring for and helping others. VU has given me the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally through great instruction and hands-on clinical experiences. Being able to learn in the classroom and then apply those skills in real clinical settings has helped prepare me for my future career as a nurse. My faith has played a big role in why I chose nursing as my career. I feel that God has called me to serve others, and nursing gives me the opportunity to care for people, support them when they are vulnerable, and make a positive difference in their lives.”
What do you love the most about the new Center for Health Sciences and Learning Innovation?
“What I love most about the new Center for Health Sciences and Learning Innovation is the simulation labs and updated learning spaces. They allow us to practice real-life scenarios and build confidence before going into clinical settings, which is really valuable as a nursing student. I also enjoy spending my time in the different study rooms available.”
Describe your best experiences as a VU student.
“My best experiences at VU have been meeting new people and making friendships that will last a lifetime. The connections I’ve made with classmates and the support we’ve given each other throughout the nursing program have been very meaningful to me. They have made each step of this experience worth it, and I am forever grateful for them all!”
What are your plans after graduating?
“After graduating from VU, I plan to work as a registered nurse in the emergency department at Greene County General Hospital. I’m excited to start my career and continue learning while caring for patients in a fast-paced environment.”
What makes you a Trailblazer?
“What makes me a Trailblazer is my determination to work hard, support those around me, and continue pushing myself to reach my goals. I’m proud to be part of a program that is preparing me to make a difference in people’s lives.”
