Publication of Hazing Incidents Policy

Vincennes University is committed to preventing hazing by any group or organization associated with Vincennes University. The university is also committed to transparency when acts of hazing have taken place and have been proven accurate following a thorough investigation. In compliance with IC 21-39-9.1, Vincennes University will publicly publish incidents of hazing, investigatory summary, and any sanctions or punishments as a result thereof.
IC 35-42-2-2.5 defines hazing as forcing or requiring another person with or without the consent of that person and as a condition of association with a group or organization to perform an act that creates a substantial risk to bodily injury.
If you or someone you know has experienced hazing as described in this policy, please contact the Dean of Students at 812-888-4142.
Report of Hazing will contain

  • The name of the group or organization involved in hazing
  • The date on which the incident occurred
  • The date on which the investigation into the incident began
  • The date on which the group or organization was charged with misconduct
  • The date on which the citation, sanction, or other punishment was implemented
  • A description of:
    • The hazing incident
    • The findings of the investigation
    • The citation, sanction, or other punishment implemented
  • A notice that:
    • Additional information related to the investigation, citation, sanction, other punishment, and group or organization is available upon request
    • the state educational institution is required to comply with IC 5-14-3, access to public records
    • information protected by the federal Educational Education Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. 1232g et seq.) may not be released
    • Instruction on how someone may request additional information.
