Award Recipient Scott Hendrix

October 13, 2026

Dr. J. Scott Hendrix is a Vincennes native whose lifelong commitment to service and community has made an extraordinary impact. A 1974 graduate of Vincennes Lincoln High School and 1976 Vincennes University alumnus, Scott has carried forward the spirit of leadership since his days as a Junior Civitan.

His dedication continued through decades of service — leading Civitan locally and regionally, even organizing an international convention that helped secure a major grant for the Children’s Center at Washington Avenue and St. Clair. Beyond his profession of more than forty years as an optometrist and founder of Eyeworks, which Scott grew to multiple locations, he is a proud supporter of VU Athletics. He served as president of the Knox County Humane Society and KCARC, and helped award scholarships through the Knox County Community Foundation.

Scott was named the 2024 Vincennes Citizen of the Year. He has also been named as an Outstanding Alumni of Vincennes Lincoln High School. A devoted husband, father, and “Pop” to his grandchildren, Scott’s life is a reflection of true civic pride and compassion.
