Clark Hall

clark Hall: Student Housing & Amenities

Clark Hall is a suite-style residence hall on the Vincennes University (VU) campus. It was the first residence hall built on the campus, originally constructed in 1968. The building underwent a major renovation (a $10 million project) during the 2007-2008 school year. This renovation completely transformed the exterior and remodeled the traditional double-loaded corridor concept into a suite-style living arrangement.

  • Gender Layout: Clark Hall at Vincennes University offers a co-ed living arrangement, but the gender layout is managed on a suite-by-suite basis.

    • The suite itself is typically designated as single-gender for the entire academic year (meaning all four residents are of the same gender).

    • Different suites on the same floor may house different genders.

    • The third floor of Clark Hall specifically houses an all-gender living-learning community. This is an inclusive option where students of any gender can apply to live together in the same suite.
  • Amenities:

    • In-Suite: Individually climate-controlled rooms, Two separate bedrooms (each shared by two students), two private bathrooms (shared by only two students), a shared living area, a small kitchenette (with a sink and cabinets), kitchen table and a loveseat, television, refrigerator, microwave, desk and chair, wardrobe and set of chest drawers.

    • Common Areas: A full kitchen with seating, laundry rooms (usage cost included in housing fees), study lounges/study areas, a home theater (theater room).

    • Technology: The building features dedicated computer facilities and group study areas to support student academics, there is a television in the shared living area of each four-person suite, wifi and ethernet access.

Location & Connectivity

Godare Hall is centrally located on campus, providing convenient access to essential student hubs:

  • Dining: Clark Hall is located near Tecumseh Dining Center or other residence halls that might have auxiliary food service.

  • Recreation: It is a short walk to the Student Recreation Center, which houses weight rooms, basketball courts, and the aquatic center.

  • Academic Support: It is a short walk to the main academic buildings and resource centers, like the Shake Learning Resources Center (the campus library).

Historical Significance

Clark Hall is named in honor of the heroic Revolutionary War commander George Rogers Clark.

  • He led a small force of frontiersmen to capture the British-held Fort Sackville at Vincennes in February 1779.
