Vigo Hall
Vigo Hall: Student Housing & Amenities
Vigo Hall is one of the key traditional residence halls on the Vincennes University campus, known for its central location and classic double-room style.
-
Gender Layout: Vigo Hall is a co-ed residence hall. Typically, the hall is separated by gender on a floor-by-floor basis. For example, one known arrangement is that females are housed on the bottom floor, and males are housed on the top two floors, or vice-versa, depending on enrollment needs.
-
Amenities:
- In-Room: Vigo Hall primarily offers double occupancy rooms, meaning each room is shared by two students. Rooms are furnished with essential items for each resident, including a bed (extra-long twin size), dresser, desk, and chair.
-
- Technology: They rooms are equipped with a cable outlet and an internet port (Ethernet), along with Wi-Fi access. The hall features air conditioning.
-
- Study Spaces: The hall provides study lounges and designated areas for group or individual study.
-
- Computer Lab: A computer lab is available for residents to use.
-
- Kitchen: There is a communal kitchen where residents can prepare meals beyond what is offered on their meal plan.
-
- Laundry: A laundry room is located within the hall, and the cost of usage is included in the housing fees.
Location & Connectivity
Godare Hall is centrally located on campus, providing convenient access to essential student hubs:
-
Dining: It is situated right next to the Tecumseh Dining Center, making it extremely convenient for students to access meals.
-
Recreation: The hall is also located near the Student Recreational Center and other athletic facilities, which include the weight room, basketball courts, and the Aquatic Center.
-
Co-Location: Vigo Hall is often considered a "brother-sister" hall to Godare Hall, and the two buildings are centrally located on campus.
- Renovations: The lobby and first floor were recently renovated (around the 2017-2018 academic year) to remove former offices, creating a more open and welcoming lobby space for student seating and study.
Historical Significance
Vigo Hall is named in honor of Francis Vigo, an Italian-American merchant and explorer who provided significant aid to American forces, particularly George Rogers Clark, during the Revolutionary War.
-
Francis Vigo was a key figure in the founding of Vincennes University (originally Jefferson Academy) in 1801.
